Apprentice Plays His Cards Right For Future In IT

Gambling on his future wasn’t an option for Cheshire school leaver Adam Fallaize. Adam wanted to work in information technology, and when he won a place to study for an Advanced Apprenticeship in IT with leading IT support training provider Pearson in Practice, he knew the chips were stacked in his favour.

Less than a year after graduating from the Pearson in Practice training centre in Warrington with his apprenticeship and a clutch of industry qualifications, Adam has a good job with Genting UK and great career prospects with the leading casino operator.

After gaining his A-levels at sixth form college, 22-year-old Adam, from Winsford, went to university to study computing. But he found the course wasn’t giving him the practical experience he wanted. He said: “When young people are taking their A-levels, there’s a lot of pressure to go to university and I thought that was what I wanted, too.

“I always knew I wanted to work in IT, but I soon realised that I wasn’t getting the practical experience I needed on the course I was studying at uni, so I looked at other options. When I heard about an apprenticeship in IT, it sounded right for me.”

Adam now works for Genting UK, which has more than 40 casinos across the UK. He believes his apprenticeship gave him a lot more than just his technical skills and qualifications.

Adam said: “I learned life skills during my Pearson in Practice apprenticeship that I wouldn’t have picked up at uni, such as how to be professional in a business environment.  This was invaluable when I started work.”

Adam has a first line support role in the applications and projects department at Genting’s office in Liverpool. He is a software support engineer for the casinos’ loyalty scheme and deals with bespoke applications that are used across the company.

He said: “I would certainly recommend an apprenticeship to anyone who is considering what to do when they leave school or sixth form college. Making a decision that will shape your whole future isn’t easy, but there are alternatives to university – you just have to seek them out.”

Adam really made the most of his opportunity and is now proving that a Zenos apprenticeship really does open doors in a highly competitive jobs market.
